The evidence
points to God existing and supports the claims in the Bible.
But what is God like and what is life all about? You may have already looked at the
Handbook for life -
Christians believe that the Bible is God's Word, that it is reliable and it can give us the answers to all
our questions.
What does the Bible say about God?
|
|
-
There is one God, that he is living and that life comes from him.
"Jesus
answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to
the Father except through me."" John 14:16
-
God is independent, whereas creation is dependent on him John 1:3
"Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that
has been made.".
-
God is transcendent and separate from his creation. However God is
actively involved in his creation
-
God is personal and desires a relationship with us
-
God is powerful (Omnipotent) and made everything from nothing
-
God is beautiful and creation reflects the character of God Romans
1:20 "For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities—his
eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being
understood from what has been made, so that men are without
excuse.".
-
God is orderly and perfect - creation reflected this until the
Fall of
mankind which led to suffering, natural disasters and death
-
God is good and everything he made he declares to be good
-
God is gracious and loving, and he is righteous and just
-
God speaks creation into existence - by his word are the heavens and
the earth created. Genesis repeatedly uses the phrase "
and God said".
-
Jesus is the living word (John 1:1-5). Psalm 33:6
"By the word of the
Lord were the heavens made, their starry host by the breathe of his
mouth."
